Influencing Decision-Making Course
Cork City Partnership are offering a Fetac accredited course to anyone who would like to learn more about local decision making structures and how to get more involved in influencing those structures.
The course will be delivered on Tuesday evenings in the offices of Cork City Partnership from 7pm to 9.30pm. The course will begin on the 6th September 2011 and run until 6th December 2011.
The course has been delivered for the last three years and the feedback from the participants has been extremely positive.
“Information gathered made me become more aware of issues in my own community that needed to be highlighted. I also enjoyed guest speakers who shared information and experience with the class”
“I would recommend it to others. It was a really good experience for me. Liked meeting new faces”
The project aims to equip communities at grassroots level to be informed about decision-making and the benefits of facilitating the most excluded in our society to partake in decision-making.
Community development staff will deliver the training with input from community representatives etc., which helps to put the learning in context and ensures that the course is practical.
Aims/Objectives
• To facilitate more effective participation of local communities in local development structures
• To ensure more targeted responses to the needs of those most excluded in each local area
• To document and disseminate models of greater equality of participation by local communities in local development decision-making structures.
Course Outline
The course consists of three modules and these are delivered over thirteen sessions in total.
1. Building organisational unity and strength locally
2. Understanding how political and policy decisions are made at local, National and European level
