In association with the Centre for Adult Continuing Education UCC
About the Course:
- This National University of Ireland (NUI) Certificate/Diploma in Non-Formal Guidance is a two-year, part-time adult education course. The Course is designed to enhance the personal development of participants and increase their awareness of their own responses and attitudes to others with particular emphasis on attitudes towards young people.
- This course is a response to the felt and expressed needs of community groups for an opportunity to acquire more skills in the area of Non-Formal Guidance.
- Many young people turn to adults whether neighbours, parents, friends or relations for support and the role of these ‘significant adults’ is paramount to these young people’s lives.
- The training programme is designed to support those already working with young people ‘at risk’ in their local communities or to develop their skills so that they may approach their work in an increasingly skilled and confident manner.
- It is also envisaged that this course would be of interest to those intending to engage in this kind of work in the future. The programme will also provide the participants with the necessary knowledge regarding other supports systems, both within and outside their communities.
Duration and Venue:
The course will be run over a two-year academic period at UCC -- Commencing Sept/Oct 2011 and finishing in May 2013.
